June 26, 2023

The Blue Cross Charitable Institution donated 3,000 vegetarian rice dumplings to charitable organizations and disadvantaged groups during the Dragon Boat Festival.

The event was vigorously promoted by Chairman Lin Xidi, General Manager Yang Xunzhong, and the organizing team leader Chen Biyu and team members He Guofu, Cai Guihua, Chen Jialin and special director Zhang Yijian. After more than 30 hours of hard work, 40 to 50 volunteers completed the work of wrapping and distributing rice dumplings. The beneficiary groups include Shanyou Counseling Center, Guanghuizhao Community Care Center, Wanfolin Day Care Center, Life Care Association and the Blue Cross Charitable Institution’s nursing homes.

The Blue Cross Charitable Institution was established during the Japanese occupation in 1942. At that time, food and medicine were scarce, and the bodies of the sick and dead people were lying on the streets without anyone to bury them. The ancestors of the charity halls then asked for permission from the then "Syonan Special City Health Department" (i.e. the Health Bureau), and the five charity halls of Pujiu, Xiude, Tongjing, Tongfeng and Nan'an jointly established the Blue Cross Charitable Institution, which was responsible for burying corpses, providing medical treatment and medicine, and emergency treatment. After the surrender of the Japanese army, the other five charity halls of Tongde, Baode, Nanfeng, Zhonghong and Chongfeng successively joined the Blue Cross Charitable Institution.

Chairman Lin Xidi said: "This Dragon Boat Festival warm-hearted activity has gathered the strength of people from all walks of life to jointly create an atmosphere full of care, spread joy, and also inherit the spirit of the Blue Cross Charitable Institution's enthusiasm for public welfare and care for the disadvantaged.
