Nam Ann Siang Theon (NAST) originated as a shantang out of the Balestier Friendly Athletic Association in 1944 on the suggestion of textile merchant Huang Xiecheng who provided land for the shantang’s initial use. NAST director Lin Zhengyu later donated the 3 Ah Hood Road site land where NAST built its new premises and expanded on Nam Ann School. Founded in 1946 the school closed in Nov. 1975 with the government’s acquisition of the Ah Hood Road site. NAST then procured a new site at Paya Lebar Crescent and the new premises was officially opened on 5 Dec. 1980.
NAST offered medical service in 1980 within its premises and later expanded its outreach by setting up Nam Ann Siang Theon Medical Centre at Hougang Street 21.
