Poh Kiu Siang T’ng (PKST) was established in October 1929 and was registered in May 1941. Its initial location is unknown but it operated out of 18 Upper Circular Road after WWII. In 1953 it purchased a piece of land at Simon Road and moved in December 1953 after construction of the new premises completed. To expand its medical service to meet increasing patients, PKST procured its neighbouring land in 1990 but was not granted approval for expansion until 2012 where a new medical centre and office building was finally developed.
In 1949 PKST set up its own Teochew opera division and over the next few decades gave numerous performances either for celebratory occasions or to raise funds for charity purpose.
PKST started providing free Chinese medical service in 1951 and at one time offered western medical service.
