Thong Kheng Charitable Institution

During the Japanese Occupation Hong Bojing led a group to set up an altar offering prayers to Master Song Dafeng. In 1943 the Syonan government approved the setup of a religious charitable organization and Seng Siang of Tong Keng Charitable Institution (SSTKCI) was formed at 8 Kallang Road.

After the war SSTKCI set up Tong Keng School, and both moved to 28 Lorong 25A Geylang in 1948. The increasing student enrolment led to the acquisition of its current site at Lorong 29 Geylang and the school ceased operation in 1981.

In 1954 SSTKCI started offering western medicine service to serve the poor in Geylang and in 1957 partnered with St. Anthony’s Convent to set up a clinic. In the 1990s, SSTKCI set up childcare and elderly care facilities. In 2017 a care centre for autistic adults was also set up. Thong Kheng Welfare Service Society was established in 2001 to provide more efficient management of its welfare institutions.
